Elko County is part of the Elko, NV Micropolitan Statistical Area. ==History== Elko County was established in 1869 from Lander County; the name was taken from the name of the county seat, Elko. On 14 March 2014, the Bureau of Land Management sold 29 fracking leases for $1.27mn to a collection of six companies that included Noble Energy.〔(shalereporter.com: "BLM sells 29 oil, gas leases in northeast Nevada" 14 Mar 2014 )〕 The transaction was the first such in Nevada.〔
